Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for street photographers of any level of experience. You'll leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of street photography, new ideas and new skills!

Online session

We start the workshop with a Zoom online session on Thursday 8 April 2021.

We'll discuss various styles and approaches to street photography and consider why we are each drawn to particular kinds of photographs and ways of working. We use our own images and the work of other photographers to provide context and inspiration and to get you thinking about your goals for the workshop and beyond.

As part of the online session we also invite you to present a portfolio of your work for review.

Saturday and Sunday sessions

On Saturday morning we head out to make photographs on the streets of Sydney. We'll be shooting alongside you, offering tips and suggestions. You'll also get to see how each of us approaches working on the street.

We'll invite you to work on assignments or to practice techniques and approaches that are linked to the goals you identified during the online session. Those assignments will be designed to increase your confidence and help you to make more interesting photographs, and will be tailored to your level of experience.

We finish shooting just before sunset and do a quick review of the day before we relax over coffee or a drink and talk more street!

On Sunday we'll meet at a different location and shoot alongside you for a few hours. After a short break for lunch, we'll head to our base and take you through an editing workflow before you work on editing your images from the weekend for review.

For Sunday's session you'll need a laptop with Lightroom (or your preferred photo management and editing software) already installed.

Essentials

Meeting place and shooting locations

Our shooting locations are chosen for the opportunities they provide for street photography. We take into account easy access by public transport, seasonal factors (weather and light) and whatever events might be happening on the day.

We'll confirm our meeting and shooting location(s) a week or two before the workshop date.

What you'll need to bring

  • A digital camera that you already know how to use
  • A wide-angle lens (or a zoom that has a wide angle setting)
  • A laptop with Lightroom (or your preferred photo management and editing software)  already installed - day two only.
  • Plenty of space on one or two memory cards and a few fully charged batteries.
  • Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, water bottle.

The workshop fee covers tuition, guidance and feedback during the workshop. All other costs (transport, food and drinks) are your responsibility.

Liability

  • We take all reasonable care in the conduct of the workshops that we teach, but education sessions conducted in public places can involve risk of personal injury.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that you are physically and mentally fit for the workshop and must at all times take care of your own personal safety.
  • We will accept no responsibility for injury or loss caused to you during the workshop. We will not be liable for any other fate that befalls you.

Refunds

If bad weather is forecast or a COVID outbreak occurs, we may have to postpone the workshop. We will wait until the Thursday of that week before making a decision.

  • If we have to postpone the workshop for any reason you’ll have your payment credited towards another workshop or refunded, at your discretion.
  • If you can’t attend the workshop for any reason and give us at least 5 days notice, we will credit your payment towards another workshop, or refund your fee, at our discretion.
